coupe spark problems

[tdthies1]

my Green 72 coupe is firing twice as fast on the No.2 cylinder that
the No. 1 and the motor does not turn over right. replaced the coil
spark plug wires becuse they were bad but that did not help. it must
be the coil i would think but why only with the one line? can anyone
help?

I am confused, what makes you think the (as you put it) No. 2 cylinder is firing twice as fast as the No. 1 cylinder?  They both fire at the same time.

when I put the timing light on it,  it flashes twice as fast on the no. 2 cyl. and when I start it it will turn over and then stop and then turn over a couple of times than starts.  if I pull the 2 spark plug it turns over easy.

Is it possible number two isn't firing twice as fast...maybe number one is
firing half the time?

I thought that might be true but the fast one is missing sometimes where the other one Is is not..plus it starts hard if I pull the No. 1 plug and if I pull the no. 2 plug is turns over easy.  even at that why would a single coil do that other than I may need a new one.  I will take the one off my other car and try that is a couple of days but was hoping to sell it soon.
if does have me baffeled.

Tom;
Lets go back to basics.  Check your timing, look at the cam and the pully wheel on the side, is it at TDC with the cam knotch centered on the drivers side cap?  if they are, then pull your plugs and check to see if the pistons are all the way up.  If all is ok, then pull the points plate and advance assembly and check to see if the key/pin is in position and the advance assembly is sitting on the cam correctly (the pin should be where the gap in the assembly base is)  if any of these are not correct then you won't start.
From what your saying it sounds like your pully is 180 degrees out.

An other possibility is if the points are set too tight and barely closing
or are carboned so they aren't making good contact. This would have the same
effect as when they open/close and cause random spark. Some spark may be
triggered early in the compression stroke causing the hard cranking. It
would also be sparking at other times, like in the exhaust stroke, but not
have a noticeable effect.

checked the points and they look good so i went back to the basics
and checked the timing. the guy that sold it to me said the motor was
rebuilt and it is very clean inside. i found the notch on the drivers
side of the cam but it lined up with the "F" on the pulley, does
that mean it is off a notch. It does run but not good and also has
low compression which i would think if it was off a tooth that would
do it? If that is right than how do i fix it.. if not what is next.
the cam NO. is engle DF1-3 and there is a 7 on the cam.
