I ordered a front caliper rebuild kit for my 72 coupe, installed the seals and now fluid leaks out like crazy. My manual did say that the seals need to be installed correctly (lip facing in) otherwise they would leak. Well, I found it very difficult to determine if there was a "lip" on my seals. Is this a matter of trial and error? I will take them back apart tomorrow and flip the seal over (rotate 180, not turn inside out) and try again. Any tips are welcome. I plan on re-installing the seals so that when I slide the piston in and out of the caliper I get the "tightest" fit....

The seals for your wheel calipers have a outside lip and an inner lip. The working edge is facing the inside of the cylinder because the casting has raised edge pushing the seal toward the piston. But, if there are any pits in the piston then the new seal will not correct the problem. Rechroming is the most common method of repair as the pistons ride on the seal. Flipping the rubber seal will not do much as the seal is a square edge "O" ring and both sides are the same.
White Post restorations does a really great job of restoring your brake parts and they have a really quick turn around. You can look at their website at www.whitepost.com
