The side clearance for the cam shaft is determined by the thickness of the end cap gaskets.  Normally the thickness of the end cap gaskets are 1/64th of an inch.  Giving an overall clearance of 1/32nd on the cam shaft ends.
If some one used an end cap gasket that is 1/32nd for each end then the clearance would be 1/8th of an inch or what you are seeing on your cam.
Many of the clearance measurements were associated with compressed thickness of the sealing material.  And the gasket material may not be suited for the application or you may be using a sealant that is not suited to the gasket material and the gasket fails prematurely.
Say the O ring for the intake manifold is size 2X42 mm according to the parts manual.  But it is the rubber use to manufacture the O ring that is the difference.  It may be a Polymer Natural Rubber or a Butyl based system that will not stand up to Gasoline or the Alcohol in the fuels available for today's vehicles.  The Nitrile based rubber systems are much better suited for this purpose.  So, going to the manufacturer to obtain specific properties of their products is always best.  Because off the shelf O rings may fit, but will they hold up to the fuels, silicone's and lubricants they are being subjected to.  However that is not the only area to look at.
The O ring off the shelf may have a hardness that doesn't allow the O ring to seal because it's to hard to compress with the allowed torque to the bolt putting pressure on the O ring.
Just something to think about when purchasing items on line, off the shelf .
