Hey, out there, From Johnston, Iowa. I have a question. Has anyone changed the breaking system in a 600 away from the original Booster system? And had some success?  JoshATC

I have deleted the brake booster on one of my cars. Takes a little more brake pedal pressure, but it stops just fine.

Someplace, a number of years ago, I remember seeing a mod replacing the master cylinder with one from another vehicle, like a VW maybe. I dont remember if it was a post on one of the two Honda 600 boards with photos, or if it was a Youtube video. As I recall, the larger master cylinder effectively stopped the car as if the brake booster was still present. Perhaps someone else here remembers and can point you to it.

OK, did a little research and discovered I was wrong sort of. The master cylinder swap I was remembering was not from a VW, but rather from a 1983 Honda. To find it, in either of the two Honda 600 groups, search the conversations for:
83 honda master cylinder
and it leads you to a link the documents what one Honda 600 owner did. Here is that link:

A while back I posted a tutorial on rebuilding your steering rack.  Main problem with most steering racks is that the pinion shaft bushings vulcanized rubber seem to liquefy because of the grease used in this unit.  Attached are pictures of NOS bushings still in their sealed packaging.
When I opened the package I found that the rubber vulcanized to the bushing had already started to deteriorate.
As seen here it is sticking to the clear side of the wrapper.
Taking it out it stuck to my fingers and was not hard (as others I have used in the past).
Which leads me to believe the product used for this rubber has a useful life, and will go back to it’s liquid state over time.
So if you’re thinking of rebuilding the rack on your car, use Miles or Lyle's replacement bushings for the pinion shaft bushings.

I ordered bushings from CMS and the rubber was almost liquid –and they still in sealed package.
