Post by elliasnassif »

The 72 600 will turn over easy but afterbibgetvher warmed up and let off the choke she dies and the discharge light goes off. Ive bought a new regulator and rectifier and replaced those with no avail now I bought the brushes for the generator and if that doesnt work its the stator or the generator Can any one help me trouble shoot? Or are there any mechanics in the San Fernando valley i dont mind paying.... please XXX-XXX-XXXX!!!

Any auto electrician older than 30 should be able to diagnose and fix it for you, or at least tell you what parts are needed.

Sounds like 2 problems. Even if charging circuit is not working vehicle still should not die when the choke is let off. Make sure battery is full charged, fuel solenoid clicks when given power, and then find out why it won`t idle. Plugged idle circuit in carb, vacuum leak, timing, valve adjustment all come to mind. Once it idles fine then you can troubleshoot the charging issue.
Wiring connections, grounds especially, are problematic on all older cars.
Voltage regulators can be bypassed momentarily to full field the alternator seeing if it even puts out. Any  more questions ask. I owned one of these in the late 70`s and no one else would even touch it. Just bought me another!
