Piston needed

Post by Stephen V. Weaver Jr. »

I am on a tight budget on this '72 sedan I have, and haven't got the
cake to afford new pistons. My cylinder is O.K., and the second piston
is like new. Does anyone out there have a used standard or oversize
piston with rings, to help a poor guy out ? I do have some used parts
to trade if needed. Thanks, Skip XXX-XXX-XXXX

If you put one oversize piston in you will have to rebore that side,
but I guess you know that. Then your engine will be out of balance.
I sold my used piston collection a couple years ago, aprox 35 pistons
on eBay. I think Steven Michelsen bought them?

Yes I still have most of them, but I don't think I have any rings.  Rings can be gotten new from Hastings .  I will write Stephen offlist about some sort of trade.

I usually weigh the pistons anyhow. I've done this on motorcycles for
years !!!! Still need piston w/rings. Have had good response for just
piston. I'm going to make this a runner, then rebuild a second
engine, properly.

Stephen;
Hastings has the rings, and they work well.  I have used .25 over rings to rering a standard piston/bore (had to file them down to make a good fit) but  as long as the land was in good shape whey worked very well.

That's a lost art, filing rings for proper end gap. I bored a Whizzer
engine once for a guy, he said he could assemble it. He sent it back
because it failed.......didn't check ring gap. Suffered bind when
hot. Of course it wasn't HIS fault......thanks for the tips.
